This year's E3 looks to be a big one featuring major hardware announcements from at least two of the big three names in console gaming, along with many new high-profile titles for the upcoming seasons.

Sony will most certainly be revealing details of its upcoming handheld system codenamed Next Generation Portable (NGP), which is rumored to vaguely resemble the PlayStation console portable version. It should be a fast, bright, and shiny handheld with a 5-inch OLED touch screen and built-in 3G, which will serve as a small gaming tablet with buttons. The official pricing and availability are still a mystery, as are the launch titles and upcoming major games for the system. These details and more are likely to be revealed at E3. Sony isn't likely to offer anything new in the way of home consoles this year, though.

The Sony Ericcson Xperia Play is a mobile device that has just been released, and people are already unofficially calling it the PlayStation Phone. It combines gaming controls that are taken directly from PSPgo with Android 2.3 Gingerbread to create an attractive package. The PlayStation games are impressive, with titles like Bruce Lee Dragon Master and Gun Bros, even if the early build software does cause them to appear a bit awkward at times.

A bigger question is how will this compete with the upcoming arrival of the PlayStation Suite Android games store. Playstation Suite will be hardware neutral, so you should be able to get it on any Android device. There fore, if you want to play PSP titles, you don't need a dedicated device like the Xperia Play to do that anymore.
